The Noughties began with tremendous optimism. I suppose every century thinks that their era is the most important in the history of civilisation.

What is clear however, is that this time round, the future of our planet is very much in our hands. I believe that the very foundation of what makes us happy is also inextricably linked to our future.

Mass production and the virtues of rampant consumerism have reached what I believe to be a tipping point. More products and services cluttering up our houses and offices are not leading to an easier life, but actually more is equalling more complicated and increasingly frustrating. You have only to look at the latest TV remote controller, computer or mobile phone. So many gizmos, network thingummy’s which we will never use, only serve to make life more complicated.
